Q: Hi, I am a 32 year old woman, pregnant with my second child. I have well controlled diabetes (type 2) and thus am considered high risk. What are my options to find an MFM who isn’t going to force me to induce, labor on the table (instead of walking), etc. Or, I guess the bigger question is how can high risk moms get some of the “natural birth” elements while still having to be monitored as high risk?
Thanks!

A: Hi Alexis, I would recommend that you connect with the local birth activists, doulas and childbirth educators in your area. These women know, either through experience or reputation, which high risk practitioners in your community will be supportive of your wishes. Having a doula at your birth would also be a great way to insure that you have continuous emotional and phsyical support no matter what course your birth takes.
