My fist birth was extremely traumatic. Afterward I was blank; I think I walked around in a daze at best. I was distant, lethargic, uninterested in life. Things I cared about were no longer important. I would wake in cold sweats with horrific nightmares. I got pregnant 6 months postpartum after my first. The birth experience couldn't have been any different, nor could the postpartum experience.
After my first and the horrible experience I had been facing, I wanted to do something very different. I planned to have PBi, at the time, just Jodi Selander, encapsulate my placenta. The experience was so different. I was happy, perky, energetic, I smiled, I was motivated, I cared, I no longer cried; though I never really quit breastfeeding my milk supply was greatly increased. My change in behavior was noticeable to everyone, especially my husband, who, to this day still refers to my placenta as my "happy pills"
I used my pills quickly, taking 3, 3xdaily for a week, then 2, 2xdaily, etc. until I was down to one a day and my jar was gone. That's what I needed. Its different for every woman. You can store the capsules in your freezer indefinitely, as they are great for menopause and other stressful life events.
I would, will and plan to do my placenta in the future. I wouldn't give birth without using my placenta for postpartum healing in the future.
