doula blog
Hi everyone! I just joined mybestbirth.com after finally watching "The Business of Being Born." I'm currently in the process of becoming a certified birth doula through DONA. I am also doing a tutorial about religion and childbirth at my school. Instead of writing papers, I'm keeping a blog!
If you are curious about the certification process, or want to hear some thoughts on religion and childbirth, give it a look! You are the first people I've shared it with (besides my professor). DONA's website (dona.org) has all the information you need to become certified. It's really not too complicated, but it still might help to read how a real person is doing it.
Since it's semi-academic, I may spend a lot of time being critical. For example, in my latest entry, I sort of criticize the Bradley Method. I actually loved the class and think it's great, but I'm also trying to engage some social and cultural issues. At the same time, I am trying to make the blog accessible and personal. Check it out, comment, and let me know what you think.

Welcome Chana! :) I am also certifying to become a doula as well and did several projects on birth and breastfeeding for my Anthropology degree and had great fun in the process. I am hopefully starting a midwifery program within the next year and I loved reading your blog, especially because religion (or spirituality) in birth is so often overlooked but very important on an individual and cultural level. It's so wonderful to see critiques of the mainstream childbirth education classes as well as an understanding of how they can be beneficial, and its refreshing to be exposed to different perspectives.

We are glad to have you! I am happy you were finally able to watch The Business Of Being Born, and I am guessing that you enjoyed it enough to at least join us here on this website ;-). I am a childbirth educator training with ICEA and a Birth Doula training with Childbirth International. I really enjoyed your blog, I will take the time to comment later (I'm typing this while the superbowl is on Halftime~ GO SAINTS!!)
In addition to being a childbirth educator and birth doula, I am also a mother of 3 boys and a passionate advocate of choices in childbirth and promoting normal physiological birth.
