This program prepares you to differentiate yourself from the rest of the doulas/labor support out there. BIRTH WISDOM provides one of the highest quality trainings available with 36 hours didactic under the nurturing guidance of our faculty. We are committed to educating from a balanced perspective, presenting both alternative and medical modalities. We will explore proven alternative therapies, as well as provide an extensive understanding of medical views on obstetrical complications and their ramifications. Our desire is to instill a healthy respect for what each has to teach us in providing optimal care for mom and baby. Comprehensive curriculum content and invaluable information is given through lecture, and through:

Interactive participation
Obstetrical medical textbooks/midwifery textbooks/labor and nursing textbooks, cutting edge journal articles.
Hands on clinical instruction
Panel interaction with your instructors with diverse training, experience and perspectives.
Over 100 hour of directed self study.
A business plan to take your knowledge to turn it into a viable and lucrative career.
An intern client referral network.
A apprenticeship program for students with little or no experience in labor and birth.
Upon completion of the series interns must attend and receive evaluation for a minimum of twelve births to receive certification.

This is comment is not about birth except the formatting of this forum .. why does my photo show up next to other people's comments? It is kind of bizarre even if it does not really matter...to see my face and then Mandy's or Darcel's comment next to it.
Is this something that can be fixed?

Michelle, I felt the same way when I got my first actual client. I worried if I was ready, and then I remembered everything I had read and the training I took and I realized that I had been preparing for it for months and yes, I was ready. Trust in yourself and what you have learned. Just focus on being calm and help bring a peaceful feeling with you to the birth. If you are calm you will also be better able to remember what you need to know.

@Michelle Van Norman - One thing my trainer told us to remember for those first births is that there was a study done showing that birth outcomes were improved even when someone just sat in the room the whole time with a clipboard. So assuming you are going to be more supportive than someone observing behind a clipboard - you will definitely be a great asset to these couples!

@MichelleVanNorman: If you have a copy of The Birth Partner, I've found that an invaluable resource, both to read before births, and some doulas even pop it in their doula kit to refer to at a birth. Good luck!

Ok i am kinda in a pickle. My doula has found me 2 moms to help with my certifications. This is sooooo frickin amazing however I do not know what to do. These will be the first births i will attend other than my own and my sisters. I guess any help would be great d=from anyone. Iplan on picking my Doula's brain too. Thanks to anyone that has suggestions.

Hi all!
Im happy to join this group and learn more about doulas. Im especially looking for a doula in my area of southern california. I experienced an unnecessary C-section about 18 months ago and am looking to become pregnant and do things entirely different. Im nervous, but know that I need to become educated and surround myself with supportive and knowledgeable people! Any help is so appreciated!
