Karen - I love that story too. Unfortunately people often think that we Europeans are into breastfeeding big time - but just to demonstrate our limitations - the UK are bringing in a law to give women the right to breastfeed in public - the trouble is, it states 'for babies up to six months old' - so that can be interpreted as saying that we cannot breastfeed an older baby in public - outrageous - I hope it dosn't get abused - but it's just terrible that we needed to put it in law at all! How do you all do in 'the land of the free' with public displays of breastfeeding? (I'm a bit out of touch - i was a La Leche League Leader in Uk for 10 years in the 90's) Lynn x

Friday afternoon at Books of Wonder, our favorite Manhattan children's book store I met a Mom of a 2 year old. She is from France and we were sharing thoughts on books and pre-school. Her son was getting tired and without any self consciousness she nursed him while we were talking. It was beautiful. I told her how great it was that they were still nursing and she explained that her family in France things she is completely crazy to continue nursing for so long. I explained that we are still nursing too and she said she feels much more supported here in her decision. This really surprised me as I often feel completely out of the mainstream in my decision to allow my son to self wean. It was wonderful to see another Mom carrying on with what makes she and here son happy.

Just thought I'd share. And I must say there is almost always a child breastfeeding at this particular bookstore when we are there. Hurray for environments where Mom's can feel comfortable feeding their wee ones!

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

Hello Ladies!! I'm currently tandem nursing my 2 year od and my 8 month old. MY son ( the 2 year old) nursed though my pregnancy and hasn't slowed down one bit! We pratice child-led weaning , which at times can be VERY trying! But it's well worth it. My daugther has no problem nursing and is a very chubby baby! =) Nice to meet you all!!

Thanks Amber-joy, I'd love to hear more about how you got hooked up donating for a cancer patient. I feel reluctant to stop lactating when my youngest is done since it's just a wonderful resource. I've considered donating.

Hi, I nursed my son until he was 3, by then I had been tandem nursing him and his little sister for 6 months. She nursed until I was pregnant with my youngest, I weaned when my colostrum came in and gave her diarrhea :( She was 2 and a half. Now I'm nursing my youngest who's almost 2 and plan to let her lead her weaning. She loves nummy and it really just is a part of life I don't really think about, except when I get to swap info with mamas, or remind myself of the benefits my children and I will receive from this awesome resource! Also, did anyone else LOVE the article in Mothering a while back about all the extra uses of breastmilk!? So amazing!
