Hi Meredith, I am an avid supporter of breastfeeding, but I must say that after you have established breastfeeding and have a great latch, and all is well, it's not a terrible idea to start pumping and get your baby used to using a bottle with your breast milk. You may want to take a break and have a breather every once in awhile, and it is always nice to know that you have someone who will care for your baby while your out, and that your baby will have no problems accepting a bottle.

In my experience, moms who didn't breastfeed tend to feel guilty or threatened in some way by breastfeeding mom, and thus a little defensive about the whole thing, so while I know it is hurtful for her to say those things to you, just keep in mind it is probably coming from her own guilt or feelings more than anything.

Good luck!

Ladies, I plan on exclusively breastfeeding which I have told my family of since day 1. My sister has been harassing me lately because she "doesn't think it's fair" to just breastfeed and not introduce a bottle. She mainly wants to babysit etc. I am going to be a stay home mom when the baby arrives so I guess I really don't get where she is coming from. She briefly breastfed her son but not exclusively. I don't want to introduce a bottle and the thought of doing so makes me REALLY uncomfortable. What could I say that won't hurt her feelings but will help her understand the importance of being exclusive.

Tammy--Congrats on your 2+ years of BF your baby. Much admiration to you for doing it. When my son weaned at just over 2 YO it was very bittersweet. I mourned the loss of that special time and bond we shared while I also celebrated as he grew up to a healthy, young child. What a milestone! You may check back on us from time to time. While our days of offering you support are passed, there is still much support you could offer us with your experience. Much luck to you. And Happy Birthday. Enjoy your trip!!!

I guess I'll say "Bye" to this great group. This is our last few days of nursing. We gradually dropped down to 1 time a day and have been there for over a month now. I leave my daughter for the first time this weekend--a planned 40th birthday present to myself--and when I come back, no more nursing. Wow. My daughter turned two at the end of July. What a wonderful experience this has been. Thank you for all your support over the past year plus.

Ameda is sponsoring a campaign to support breastfeeding moms. You answer the question "I breastfed because..." for each video they get they will donate $5 to the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (org that collects, and donates to infants in need of breastmilk, mostly for medical reasons), for each comment they get on that their website and each tweet they will donate $1. They also have prizes they are giving away. Great way to spread the word and maybe win a prize ;) You can get all the info and make your comments or upload video at http://www.ibreastfeedbecause.ameda.com/
