I did know that the CDC had a conference today. Intact America was on the conference ground in Atlanta helping distribute research-based evidence against these claims. I think it is rather hilarious that the USA has the highest circ rate of any country and also the highest STD rate of any developed nation. The Uganda study conducted by Jewish researchers is being pushed as conclusive even though the flaws in the study are numerous and other studies, conducted by other researchers, have shown no link. Also, the Lancet just released a study showing women are at 55% higher risk of contracting HIV from circed men. Think of it this way. If this were a vaccination that only showed a 60% success rate, it would never be put on the market. For a vaccine to be put on the market it would have to prove to eliminate the disease by much more than 60%. The fact that these studies are already highly subjective (if you believe them then there is still a 40% risk) and they show an increase in male-to-female transmission by about 55% makes this entire conference laughable. As we always say, circumcision is a cure in search of a disease.

Condoms are 98% effective against HIV transmission. Condoms on a circed man are equally effective on an intact man. Over 500,000 circumcised, American men have died of AIDs. Also, recent studies show that a circed man is LESS likely to wear a condom. The real solution is pretty darn clear. Too bad there is a conflict of interest. $$$ and religion, a powerful duo.

NBC’s Chief Medical Editor, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, discusses a potential recommendation by the CDC that all baby boys born in the U.S. be circumcised. She discusses this with Matt Lauer on the Today show.

Sorry, I don't know how to provide the link to the video, but I found it on the MNS site under "News". Horrible! Siting decreased STD infection rates as the reason!

Hi Rebecca! Welcome to the group. The hypocrisy is incredible isn't it? We crusade against the cutting of girls that goes on in other countries, yet we do the same to our boys. People think that FGM is worse but in reality our male circ is more severe than the most commonly practiced forms of female circ, which only remove the clitoral hood (female foreskin). Also, more men are severely disfigured (making sex impossible) or killed by circumcision each year than the number of women. Three studies concluded that 240 newborn boys in the USA die each year from complications of circumcision. The number of African boy that die far exceeds that! Cutting is cutting. I'm happy to have you here with us. Even if you don't have a boy you can still protect other boys! Hi, I have a daughter but before we knew her gender I convinced my husband we do NOT want to circumcise. I never really knew what it was until about 10 years ago. I was horrified to find out that it is mostly scar tissue you see all over 'that part' of a man! Socially acceptable or not, it just didn't sit right with me and so I have been against it ever since I learned the meaning of the word! It is a relief to know there are others out there teaching by example since I don't have a boy yet!!
