Permalink Reply by Tina R. Johnson on May 11, 2009 at 3:03pm kiri. my story is like yours. my mother born at home on a farm in northern georgia , like her mother before her... my son born at home in an apartment in the city in 1988, i was the odd one, being born at a detroit hospital in the 60's....i like to think i reversed the trend in my family. my sister too chose homebirth, as did many women i know. it is empowering to share our stories again and againWow you truly are a strong and beautiful women.
my grandma had 11 children at home but that was the norm then. I thought it was very funny when my dad who was born at home asked my mom, "shes having the baby where?" my dad is too funny

Permalink Reply by Jyn Meyer on May 12, 2009 at 7:18pm My husband and I talked about this recently- since Im expecting my 6th baby in 10 years, were both very experienced and he lightly jokes about just 'oopsing' and having the baby at home to deliver.
One of the reasons I don't want a homebirth here is the fact that not only are we renting but we're moving soon. It's really hard to manage my five kiddos and even nest when Im not in my own best element.
If the conditions were better, I would be right on having that homebirth!!! But Im a huge advocate for natural birth and not allowing the doctors and nurses to railroad me into all the BS about, "Well you have been in labor for 2 hours so we need to administer Pitocin to speed things up because of the risk of infection..." when the membranes arent even ruptured.
I joke around that I will have to put a sign on my door stating, "WARNING! Informed and opinionated mom behind this door! Enter at your own risk or benefit."

Permalink Reply by aminah muhammad on May 13, 2009 at 7:45pm AWESOME!!! I'm trying to have a homebirth but so many people are against it. I'vehad nothing but hospital births so far... they weren't horrible.. but they weren't what i wanted either.
t's hard for me to o againstthe rain when pretty mch everyone around me is saying "Hospitals are better"
Permalink Reply by aminah muhammad on May 13, 2009 at 8:22pm lol! I love this idea! God... they start on that after only 2 hours? What crap! My waters were broken for 91 HOURS before my DD was born, at home in a pool... there were no signs of infection in me or her adn NOTHING went IN once the waters had broken. There's far more chance of an infection if people are rummaging around up there and if you are in hospital anyway....
DEclining VEs is a great way to reduce your risk of infection so that can be a nice tool in your arsenal if they start wibbling about that!
