I was in the same boat some 7+ years ago as I planned my first hb (at month 8 of said pgy...I'd been seeing an ob up until that point with plans for your run of the mill hosp birth). I would encourage you to trust yourself, trust your decisions and not feel obligated to educate the world on why you are doing what you are doing, the choices you are making, and your plans. It's really not your job to enlighten them (disclaimer: I realize you're trying to get hubby on board, but it is a process, so take it one day at a time). I only say this bc FOR ME, it got so old trying to validate and explain myself and choices at every other turn to every last person. It made me doubt myself being challenged alllllllllllllllll the time. But also, it reaffirmed my thoughts and beliefs. In the end, I lied to most people who were just aquaintances ("Yep, having the babe at Hosp A with Dr. B") and that sufficed. Do what works for you and trust that gut feeling that led you to hb in the first place. I've had 3 at home now and could not imagine birthing elsewhere. PS-Birth Works is a great class (I loved it) and Bradly was very user friendly and unthreatening for dad. I would recommend both. :D

Have you asked him what his comfort scale would be out of ten if you were in a hospital setting.  My guess is it still wouldn't be a 10 because he is probably just worried about you.  It will take him some time to get used to the idea and he probably will have to wait and just see how it goes to be fully comfortable.  Try and taking an out of hospital birthing class, like Hypnobabies (my favorite), Bradley or something else so that he gains some tools so he knows how to help you.

Thanks All! I had (and am still having) a hard time with family accepting my plans to have a home birth. But, I feel that knowledge is power, and I am doing my best to educate them as much as I can. It is a slow go, but seems to be improving. I am having an especially tough time with hubby, who tells me he's at a "4" on a comfort scale of 1-10 (10 bring totally comfortable). I'm going to start a discussion topic to see if the group has any suggestions for me! Thanks ;-)

Welcome! I had my 18 month old daughter at home. It was the most amazing experience, and will forever be a dear day in my heart. I really would love to experience it again... Maybe one day in the future!

Welcome Amanda. I had my first homebirth 2 yrs ago after 2 c-sections. You will fall in love with birth. Within an hour of having my daughter at home I wanted to do it all over again. Hopefully in the next year I will be able to get pregnant and have another home birth. Good luck and let us know if we can help with anything.

That's awesome, congratulations! My last two were homebirths. I absolutely love birthing at home.
