Hello everyone! I am a childbirth educator and doula, expecting my 3rd child. My oldest was born in a birth center and then my 2nd, at a hospital with a CNM. We are having #3 at home and couldn't be more excited! We have 5 weeks before our EDD. Glad to find you all here.

Magdalen, I agree with Catherine. ICAN is a great website and they helped my sister in law a lot. Don't ever stop asking questions.

Wahey!! I'm the 100th member of this lovely group! My son Michael was born at home in water in August 06, and I'd certainly do it at home again if I ever got the chance!

Magdalen, what utter tosh! (Can you tell I'm a Brit?!) There are lots of fab websites to give you the low down -,, and there is an American one - ICAN. Good luck.

Wow, a VBAC at home! We had our first 9 weeks ago by emergency c-section. We were at the birthing center and at 9cn. my son pooped. We had to be rushed to the local hospital. I want to have a home birth with our next one (I'm not pregnant, just thinking ahead) however the Dr. who delivered my son said my uterus wall was too thin and that I should NEVER go into labor again. Has anyone heard of this or experienced this?

This is my favorite subject! I have 3 boys, my youngest Samuel, 3, was born in our bedroom and would never trade the experience for anything! I am a doula, and ideally would be a midwife. The most beautiful people i have ever met are midwives :) I met a pregnant mom (first baby) a couple of months ago who was on the fence on home or hospital until she saw "The Business of Being Born" and that was all she needed to decide to stay home! I am excited to be joining this community- I would love to hang with any of you mamas on here who happen to live in Austin, Tx- I am new to this city and have not been at a birth as a doula, not sure where to begin!

Hi everyone. My name is Mandy and both of my children were born at home. Most likely we will be having at least one more child and I would not have it any other way than at home. I'm very passionate about homebirths and am looking into becoming a doula and maybe eventually a midwife. My sister in law just had a VBAC at home and I got to attend and it was an awesome experience. Im so happy to see so many homebirthers here. We're not alone:)

i had a home birth with my only son 20 years ago. it still remains one of the most empowering experiences of my life. i have had the honor to attend home and hospital births as a support for the mother. and now proudly practice holistic massage therapy for the whole family....i love being able to share my story and inspire others.
