Hello, just joined this group. I have four children, three born at home, and have run a home birth support group in the UK for the last 8 years. I look forward to chatting with you all. Understanding how wonderful home birth is is a bit like having a secret no one wants to hear about. I am pleased to be with others who have embraced this truth.

I'm a birth doula and CBE having two in a OOH birth center and my last just 4 months ago at home. I'm also stuyding midwifery and enjoy helping others find their way on their birth journey.

I had my first at a free-standing birthing center (all natural), and my 2nd (now 3yrs) at home in water. I have been present at 3 of my sister's homebirths....and have to say it's quite an amazing event. I am hoping to eventually offer birth photography as a service here in Eugene.

Recently attended an HBAC breech, water delivery as doula. What a tremendous victory for all humans!

I'm not pregnant right now. My homebirth was almost 2 years ago. I just wanted to say I love seeing all of these homebirthing mama's.

Hi, I'm currently 7 months pregnant and planning a home water birth. I bought my pool today! I am so eager to be able to have this experience. My first delivery was in a hospital and I was not well educated at all about childbirth, so it was not a pleasant experience. I have learned a lot since then. I have a wonderful midwife and will be meeting her partner in a week and a half.

I am a proud first-time mommy of a 3 week old baby boy, Leland. We planned a homebirth the whole pregnancy but at 27 hrs of labor at home we had to transfer to the hospital. We still had a beautiful birth thanks to careful planning and the excellent collaboration of the hospital midwives with my homebirth midwife.

The Maternity Services Review handed down its report on February 21st, 2009. It examines enhancing midwifery practice. The care of a known midwife from early pregnancy through labour and birth has considerable benefits. These benefits can be measured financially through a reduction in unnecessary surgical birth and other interventions. More subtle but important benefits are increased rates of bonding and breastfeeding, lower rates of post-natal depression and greater satisfaction with the experience of childbirth.
The report of the MSR states that the Govt. will not support the costs of private homebirth services, nor will they provide indemnity insurance assistance to midwives working in private practice. Midwives in private practice are the only health professionals in Australia currently without indemnity insurance. This is not due to their practice, or claims history; it is simply due to the fact that they are small in number. Medical practitioners and their clients currently enjoy indemnity protection at an estimated cost of $500 million.
There are currently plans to establish a national registration body for health professionals by July 2010. A requirement for registration is professional indemnity insurance. If midwives in private practice are not assisted, they will be prevented from registering. If they practice midwifery unregistered they face a jail term. If national registration proceeds as planned women choosing homebirth will be unable to access a registered midwife, and essentially the practice will go underground. It is not acceptable that women are unable to choose the care of a registered midwife to give birth at home. This is a violation on human rights. Homebirth is a nationally funded option in the UK, Canada, NZ & The Netherlands. I ask that you support a woman’s right to choose where and with whom she gives birth.

Hey everyone! I'm new here!
I'm the proud stay at home Mommy to three amazing children ages 1, 3, and 4 1/2.
I had my first two children in the hospital. I hated how they treated you. It was just too busy and too medical. I had my third child at home with the wonderful support of my husband, Doula, best friend and Midwife. I will never have a hospital birth again. It was the most incredible, special, calm, respectful, caring, considerate, joyous, personal experience of my life!

I am new here and am expecting our first baby this September. We are having a home birth. My midwives are great and so far my pregnancy has been easy.
