I used self-hypnosis to comfortably give birth to all three of my children. I took a HypnoBirthing class during my first pregnancy Although, honestly, I was looking for something more in-depth, so it wasn't a good fit for me, and though I made an attempt at doing HypnoBirthing, I wound up using hypnosis techniques learned elsewhere during my birth. For my second and third births, I prepared using the Hypnobabies Home Study and had much more success using those skills during my birth. I'm a hypnosis-for-birth junkie, and look forward to getting to know everyone here!

HypnoBirthing--The Mongan Method is a complete childbirth education program taught in 5 classes, each class lasting 2 1/2 hours. We cover anatomy and physiology of birth, nutrition and exercise, creating a birth plan, how to find a caregiver and birthing location, the power of the mind and the reason for using hypnosis in childbirth, about the birthing process step by step including things that you and your partner can do to help you be more comfortable and relaxed. The techniques we teach include 3 different breathing techniques, basic relaxation techniques, visualization and self-hypnosis techniques, and deepening techniques (taking your level of relaxation to deeper level). You are taught many techniques including 3 different kinds of breathing, basic relaxation, visualization and self-hypnosis, and deepening. You are provided with scripts, handouts, a binder, the HypnoBirthing book, and 2 CDs when you take a class program.

Another thing we focus on in class is doing fear release. Fear can cause tension in a woman's body during the birth experience, and by releasing your fears, your body can relax and do what it is designed to do when birthing.

They are two different programs. I will talk about Hypnobabies as that is what I teach.

Hypnobabies is a complete childbirth education program. We cover nutrition, exercises, comfort in pregnancy, how to stay healthy and low risk. We teach about the pros and cons of different interventions that may be suggested before, during and after birth. This helps moms create a birth preference document, which we talk about during class.
We also cover all of the childbirth information, how birth works, pushing, transformation, etc.

We have a birth partner's guide and do a birth rehersal, so that both mom and her birth partner know and can really visualize what birth will be like.

We do a hypnosis script in each class and there is over 12 scripts on CD to practice with. 3 scripts especially for your birthing day! The hypnosis is medical grade hypnosis, the same depth dentist use on their patients.

We have eyes open childbirth, meaning you create a center switch which allows you to be deep in hypnosis and comfortable during your birth, while having your eyes open, you are able to talk, walk around, move as your body desires, while staying in hypnosis.

I'm curious as to whether anyone can explain the difference, pros or cons or just preceptions between "hypnobirthing" and "hypnobabies"?

I used hypnobabies with my son and LOVED it. Just like it said, I walked into the hospital laughing with my husband inbetween birth waves and low and behold I was fully dialated. I felt that it helped me connect with my body in ways that helped me deal really well with the birthwaves. So great.

Hi-
I'm a HB practitioner & used it for my 2 births. I teach in San Diego, CA. A local OB & his wife just completed my classes & had an AMAZING HypnoBirth! Read about it at my blog at www.AWellLivedLife.blogspot.com. Especially great since the mom-to-be was initially going to get an epidural, but the OB had seen so many HypnoBirths in his practice that he had her sign them up for my classes. A few doulas influenced her by giving her Sheri Menelli's book-Journey into Motherhood & Orgasmic Birth to watch. Hurray!

I gave birth to my daughter naturally but under less than ideal circumstances so with my son I went in search of something better. I used Hypnobabies with my son and I LOVED it! I was able to have the peaceful birth that I wanted. If we have more children I will definitely use this again.

Hi everyone! I used hypnobirthing with both my sons and loved every minute of it! I can't imagine giving birth any other way.
