I haven't tried it yet (just returned from the grocery store) but I've been told that drinking Gerber's pear juice is very helpful in moving things along.

In terms of prevention (and treatment too), I agree with Sara - water, fiber & exercise! Pears have about twice as much fiber as most other fresh fruits, it did wonders for my son. And for heaven's sake, when you go to sit down, take your time, lol! For treatment, I found Witch Hazel to be very soothing for hemorrhoids (the active ingredient in Tucks.)
I've got a great recipe for bran muffins using cereal that I'm making this morning, and I just thought I'd share. They're so delicious and healthy too!
ALL-BRAN BUDS* Spice Muffins
Ingredients
375 ml 1 1/2 cups Kellogg’s All-Bran Buds* cereal
300 ml 1 1/2 cups boiling water
175 ml 3/4 cup hot skim milk
300 ml 1 1/4 cups flour
15 ml 1 tbsp cinnamon
10 ml 2 tsp baking powder
1 ml 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 ml 1/4 tsp salt
125 ml 1/2 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
50 ml 1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
125 ml 1/2 cup raisins
1 apple, peeled and diced
Directions
1. In large mixing bowl, stir together cereal, boiling water and hot milk; let stand until cereal is soft (about 10 mins).
2. Stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt; set aside.
3. Mix sugar into softened cereal until well combined. Stir in oil. Add egg, raisins and apple; mix well. Add flour mixture, stirring just until combined. Portion batter evenly into lined and lightly-greased muffin tins.
4. Bake at 200°C (400°F) about 20 minutes for large muffins (12 mins for mini muffins) or until tops of muffins are light golden brown and spring back when lightly touched. Let muffins cool 5-7 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack to cool completely.
