I would love to know more about home birth. There are plenty of resources, but it's hard to narrow down the truly helpful ones. With only 6 mo left, I'm slightly pressed for time when it comes to my education.
I bought a hypnobirthing book online, and anxiously expect its arrival - that seems like a good way to control pain without use of medications.
I have a friend who's planning a home birth and based on her experience in the hospital with her first, it seems a good option. My husband is very weary of it, since he's not familiar with it at all.
So I guess that's what I'd like to know about birth.

I'm also using hypnobirthing. As a psychotherapist who regular uses relaxation techniques it was easy to learn. Another good CD is from Bellaruth Naparstek. See www.healthjourneys.com and enter pregnancy in search. We also met a few times with a hypnotist so my husband would be comfortable. Maybe your library has a DVD or if you have cable or net you can look for a youtube or Birth Story about home birth. I recommend renting a water tub. I'm due any day! Krista

I will tell you from experience, being able to moan the birthing mother's song as I call it is a HUGE pain reliever! It's like... a deep lion's moan and as you use guided imagery to imagine the progression or that baby descending and your body opening, the moaning vibrates any discomfort away.

Definitely look into guided imagery which can go hand-in-hand with hypnobirthing.

I would thoroughly recommend www.homebirth.org.uk It is a comprehensive guide with lots of what ifs and can't because, all backed up by research. My other favourite is www.mybirth.tv If you've watched Home birth diaries or home grown babies they are all there.

Are you in the UK, US or somewhere else?
