Hi!  I am a single mom to two little girls, 7 and almost 4.  I am also a birth doula.  I always like to talk to other single parents and share information and advice!

I've been so busy with the girls and school and the house that I've neglected my community. Also, I never get any updates sent to my e-mail address, just realized that I had to "follow" and now I'm sure it'll all work.

Hope everyone is doing well!!! Ready for the Winter season (I'm not, I don't like the cold). Congrats on your baby Jennifer! How was everything? Don't worry, neither one of my daughters were planned but they sure are adorable;-) If you (and everyone else) feel like sharing stories or throwing out questions and the like, please do so. I'm going to throw out a discussion topic that's been bugging this little family unit for some time now, so hope someone has some insight to help me out.

Thanks for those of you who've joined my group! I do think it's great when single moms and dads are able to support each other (*cough, with my lack of checking this site...sorry) because we need all the community we can get. It takes a village, right?!?! ;-) And it always "seems" to me that those who have their significant other to lean on (specifically biological/adoptive second parent) don't have a clue what it's like not to have THAT specific support.

Take care and I always appreciate hearing from you!

This was not planned however I am still thrilled whilst scared of what lies ahead and just looking to share experiences with other moms in he same boat.

I am not sure about that. I just looked online and it seems to pretty much the same everywhere.

That is fantastic, I've thought of being a surrogate as well but it seems like there is so very much involved in the process. Do you know if it's different by state?

Welcome to the group!

Also if any of you are trying to become a mom and are having trouble getting pregnant, I would love to offer myself as a surrogate. I have given this years of thought and believe that I am ready. Just FYI

My mom had my little sister one month before she turned 42, five months later I had my first daughter who will be 5 on the 4th July and my first nephew was born 11 days after that. It was a busy year for our family. I just had my second daughter 8 weeks ago Thursday. I can empathize with you because with my first pregnancy I always forgot I was pregnant; I didn't look pregnant, I was never sick, I was in denial haha. But the second one gave me morning sickness for 5 months and I was big by the 3months, tired all the time, all the "normal" pregnancy stuff. But, after both being 2 weeks past the E.D.D., I had pretty simple births. The first one was at home and the second in a hospital with a midwife. It's amazing how quickly you forget that you were single at one point in life because those little ones consume your life from the start. I do miss sleeping in and that's about it;-) Both my girls are fantastic!!! You'll love being a mom and then sometimes you'll want to rip your hair out...hey, it can't all be roses and champagne like on the sitcomes. It's wonderful to see their smiley faces, that makes my day.

Thank you! I've been planning to do this for about two years and have gotten nothing but support and encouragement. I think my parents had almost given up on having grandchildren and were feeling very sad for me because I hadn't found the right guy, and for my brother who hasn't been able to have children with his wife. So when I told them I was taking the bull by the horns, they were overjoyed. I think they worry a bit, but overall, they're so excited. And all of my friends think it's great. It wasn't an easy decision. I went through a ton of angst and was really ambivalent for awhile about whether I wanted this to work. But then something clicked, and I knew this was right for me. Love and marriage can come later. I just want to be a mom

The first trimester sucks! It's such a tenuous time. After my first two IVFs failed, I figured at 42 I was looking for a needle in a haystack. So I had a test done on my embryos to rule out chromosomal abnormalities (it's a really new procedure that only a few fertility clinics are using). So I know the little bean I had transferred is normal within a small margin of error, and that gives me peace of mind for the most part. But there are days where I do not feel pregnant whatsoever, like today. My boobs stopped hurting about a week ago, and despite three ultrasounds that show appropriate growth and a strong heartrate, I still get scared. I'm a bit nauseated here and there and have major food aversions. But other than that, if I didn't know I am pregnant, I wouldn't know.

How old are your children?

I'm guessing there aren't to many single parents who use this site;-) How many kids do you have, Shakira, and how old? What's the greatest part of single parenting?

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! I hope you're feeling well and the 1st tri is keeping itself in check. Has it been difficult for family and friends to be alright with that route? I don't know anyone who has made that decision, it seems like the women I'm around are trained to think they need a man to procreate. I think your way is a lot less stressful in terms of "baby daddy drama";-) I wish you the best of luck.
