I haven't had any luck getting tri-care to cover our homebirths. The best my husband and I have come up with is saving the money in a flexable spending account, I hope that helps.

My husband is a Navy reservist (seabee) and we are going to be part of the post-deployment baby boom! I'm also an Army vet. We are going to be using tricare to hopefully pay for the bulk of the homebirth. I'd really like anyone's experience with dealing with tricare and the homebirth and superbill.

my husband and i have been TTC for about a year. and in that year i have been looking into my options for infertility. i know the military covers fertility treatments but to what extent? and does it matter whether your tricare standard or tricare prime? also does the military cover the cost of a midwife? i would like to have a home birth or possibly have my prenatal care and birth at a birth center. any information would be amazing. im trying to get all the information i can before becoming pregnant so that i know my options and have time to prepare. thanks in advance.

ok so im 17 weeks pregnant and my hubby will be leaving in jan to go to afghanistan for another 7 month deployment. he doesnt get to come home when the baby is born, and wont actually be home till the baby is like 4 nearly 5 months. r there any other ladies in this group dealing with the same thing? if so i'd love to just chat about things ur doing to deal with the emotional roller coaster of pregnancy. i also have a 2 yr old, my husband was deployed when he was 3 months old..so i think i can deal with that part, its just the birth and first weeks of being home alone i think thats gonna be rough.

Cherylyn- I did what you suggested and went on the DONA website, got the emails of local doulas and contacted them. They referred me to a local student doula and I met with her today! She is going to attend my birth free of charge and I will be her last birth before shes certified! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Cherylyn. I kept reading on different websites that doulas in training offer their services for free sometimes...but I couldnt quite figure out how to go about finding one.
I was on the DONA site earlier today! I was looking into certification process for myself. The next class in my area is in November I think Im going to sign up!

I also want to point out that part of DONA's mission is to provide assistance to those that can't afford it. Try the DONA website to look for a trainer or doula. If all else fails, try contacting DONA directly through their website to ask for discounted services in your area. They might be able to help. Good luck!
