I have had four children and I used hypno birthing with my last one. He weighed 9 pd and I only labored 2hrs. I wasn't in any pain I loved it.

I LOVED my experience with Hypnobabies! The birth of my second baby lasted just 2.5 hours, and only about 1 hour of that was intense active labor. Hypnobabies gave me the tools I needed to fully relax through labor and the birth. It was awesome.

Laila, thank you for sharing your story!

I'm right there with you Laila. I was induced at 35 weeks for low fluids. I used Hypnobabies, and it helped me get through about 36 hours worth of pitocin induced contractions before I felt like I should get an epidural. I had only dilated 5cm. I'd had hardly any sleep. Just a few short power naps, and some hidden snacks. By choosing an epidural I felt like I was giving up on myself, but in reality - I was helping myself. The Hypnobabies did exactly what I needed it to do for me, but sometimes plans change. =)

You were helping yourself by making the choices you did. Feel proud!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, Laila, and thank you for sharing with the rest of the birthing community! I think the positive difference here compared to many situations where interventions occur may be that choices were made by a well-informed mom with the support of a doula who knew what the mother wanted as well as what the risk/benefit discussions meant. I do hate that we give mothers "hours left" estimates, even though we do it with a sense of duty and honesty and as they beg us to tell them how much longer. These estimates are only averages and very inaccurate; they can be disheartening when they are made or when they fail to come to pass; and we can really only deal with one contraction at a time effectively- if we are thinking about an hour or 6 hours worth of contractions, the pain multiplies and our confidence ebbs away. I also think that the research evidence is not on the side of denying sustenance to women in labor, even if a C/S is under consideration for some time later. Check out Cochrane.
