I had both of my babies with HypnoBirthing with my first at a birth center and my second at home; I was impressed with my experience after my first child was born that I became a HypnoBirthing Instructor and now I have had the honor to share my story and assist hundreds of couples in learning the method for the past 7 years in NYC and on LI---I simply can not imagine birthing in any other way! Thank you so very much Melissa to speaking out on this most important issue---live, laugh & love...Mama Hypno of One Birth At A Time

Wow. This is a truly wonderful and inspiring story. I am pregnant with my first child and plan on having a natural birth. Unfortunately we don't have any birthing centers in my area, so I will have to go to the hospital, but I plan on staying home for as long as possible to deter as many medical interventions as possible. I can't wait to have this miraculous experience!

I am so glad that Melissa would share this with the world. I think more moms should know about the amazing benefit of Hypnosis for Birth. I have been a doula for years, I have noticed that the moms using Hypnosis, and especially Hypnobabies, are more calm and confident. Hypnobabies is an incredible course, and I would encourage any mom wanting a natural birth to at least look into it.
Thanks again Melissa for sharing such an amazing story.
Beth Braxton Comment by Beth Braxton on August 17, 2009 at 4:33pm
I also used Hypnobirthing with my first birth and Hypnobabies with my second and third births. Hypnosis for childbirth is so easy and so wonderful. Hypnobabies helped me to have totally intervention free births in hospitals that are typically very intrevention heavy. My births were empowering, intense, beautiful experiences. I will be forever grateful to the Hypnobabies program for giving me the tools I needed to be confident in myself and trusting in the process of birth. Hypnobabies ROCKS!!

I used HypnoBirthing for my 2nd baby and then Hypnobabies for my 3rd baby. I think hypnosis is such an amazing tool for birthing moms. I wish more moms would look into it.

With Bryson (my 3rd with Hypnobabies) I was completely comfortable the whole birth. It was amazing. You can see his birth video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA7Y_DnC_kA

Thanks for sharing your birth with the world. It will inspire many moms in their births!

I'm expecting my second baby and decided to make the switch from the Bradley Method to Hypnobirthing. So far, I really have enjoyed the information that I have read-it makes so much sense! For mothers interested in learning more about this I recommend also reading some of Dr Grantley Dick-Read's material from which hypnobirthing was based. His background as an OB/GYN is very interesting as he noticed an extreme difference between women who gave birth under a society than put a lot of emphasis in using drugs and those who did not.

Very encouraging! Women need to learn to trust their bodies and be patient and let labor happen... Thanks Ricki, Abby, and the celebs willig to share their stories. check out pushedbirth 'dot' com as well for lots of great information on natural birth.

I used HypnoBirthing as well and so did my sister! I swear by and SO glad to hear you had a good experience with it as well! It's all about knowing your body is built to have babies and trusting that!! Thank you for sharing your stories with all of us!!!
Carisa Comment by Carisa on August 11, 2009 at 9:45am
That's exactly the difference between my first two births. The first I had an epidural at 8 cm and totally stalled my labor which then had to have pitocin more epidural, etc. I felt awful after having her, I hemorraged & almost needed a transfusion. I don't remember even holding her immediately after.

The 2nd was completely drug free, no intervention. I didn't even intentionally push her out. She literally just came out on her own. I felt so empowered after that experience like I could DO ANYTHING. It was awesome. I read the hypnobirthing book and I really think I used a lot of those techniques subconsiously and that's why I didn't push - b/c they talk about breath pushing. Plus I honestly could fall asleep in between contractions which was amazing. I mostly labored lying on my side in the bed and got into the tub during transition which really helped with relaxation b/c I remember saying to my husband "I don't think I'm the natural birthing type of girl" and then 20 mins later she was out!! LOL

I'm pregnant with my third now and am hoping to have our first home birth.

Thanks for sharing! I love how you describe your energy levels as being so high, I really want that with my second. With my first I had to have a c-section, and can't even remember the first 4-6 hours.
I think it's wonderful that you were able to stay at home for the first part of your labour and "relax", and it's so amazing that your husband caught the baby! What an experience for both of you! Congratulations and best of luck.

I really appreciate these webisodes - thanks so much team my best birth. I'm pregnant for the first time and this is very enlightening. I'm hoping there's no medical reason why I'd have to do it with medicine - and I'm hoping I have the strength to do it without medicine! Sounds beautiful.
Elizabeth Feather Comment by Elizabeth Feather on August 10, 2009 at 6:44pm
Isn't it amazing to have been able to experience both sides of the story to see for yourself how absolutely night and day birth can be depending on the environment you put yourself in, as well as using or not using medication?! My first birth was a medicated hospital birth, and I was so detached from the entire experience. I was completely miserable and felt so out of control of everything. Once I had my baby I was more relieved that it was all over rather than excited that I finally had my baby. My second birth was an unassisted homebirth, and it was truly amazing. I was so in tune with my body and my baby, and after I gave birth I cleaned myself up, cleaned up the bathroom, and felt amazing! Thank goodness you had such a great support team to help deter you from giving in to the drugs!
Jennifer C Comment by Jennifer C on August 10, 2009 at 4:07pm
Neat! I love how your hubby understood how to help you get through it little by little, even after you asked for the drugs. Way-to-go hubby! Thank you for sharing your experience. My first birth was a 'forced' induction that ended in a c/s. I say forced because the midwife did not let me know that I had the option not to induce, she told me that since my waters had broken it was "hospital policy". Anyway, I very much look forward to a second birth without induction and in the privacy of my own home. Cheers!
Misha Dyer Comment by Misha Dyer on August 10, 2009 at 3:49pm
I felt the same way between my first and second births. The first was medicated and highly interventive. The second was normal, natural physiological labor and birth. The first I felt drugged, out of it and just awful. After the second I felt physically great, I had a birth high. I felt like if I did that I'm ready to go climb Mt. Everest! I think that is what women who want the epidural before labor even starts, do not understand. It's such a wonderful feeling to know that you did it! I also got up and was walking around within an hour, versus not really moving much for 12+ hours with my first.
I think it is wonderful that you are sharing your stories Melissa! Thank you!
