I love your suggestion to walk outside EVERY DAY. Starting 6 days postpartum, I did just that. I put Michelle in my Moby Wrap, took the dog and away we went. The dog also appreciated this as he has had some adjusting to do with his change in status!…
I made a playlist called "Relax" that had everything on it from Andrea Bocelli, chants and classical music of India, Vivaldi, Handel, Paul Horn, Chris Botti, Sting and just set it on random. Now every time I hear some of those songs, I…

Midwifery Today is considering publishing my birth story!!!
My midwife pushed fluids from the get-go. When I started puking in hard labor, I continued drinking because the dehydration was worse on my labor than anything. In fact. I think the puking helped me dilate. My midwife did eventually give me IV…
Oh, did I ever. I was SOOO in your shoes. Just let go of trying to "convince" them. They love you and want you to be safe. They just know what they have been told which is not often correct, bless their little hearts! I planned to go…
As a health care provider, the docs and nurses who care for you in the hospital DEPEND on what you tell them you are feeling through the process. We have our monitors, our tests, etc, but detecting diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, Lupus, a heart…
Sure thing! Whenever my nipples start feeling a little itchy, I know its time to sprinkle. When they feel really itchy and inflamed, plain organic yogurt on the nips feels cool and soothing too!
I recently saw a home-birth video of a twin delivery where the Midwife couldn't get there in time. Mom and dad, on their own, successfully delivered baby A head down and then baby B's foot popped out. Mom relaxed through it and amazingly,…
I had an out-of-hospital birth at the local birth center. Your issue is part of what sealed the deal for me to birth out of hospital. My Midwife was conservative. Penicillin G is given every 4 hours so you won't necessarily need 3 doses. The…

Thank you, I love hearing about women who where brave enough to do what they know is right even though it will hurt and other people think they're nuts.lol I get more and more convinced that a natural birth is right for me the more I read and think about it. I still have fear which I hope to work out before I give birth(not preg now, so I have time)Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm so happy for all of you! I'm anxious to see pictures of my new grand-niece. The fun is just beginning. Enjoy your new little life. She'll be amazing to watch as she discovers her new surroundings. Shelley
On July 21st at 3:55 PM we welcomed our little girl, Michelle Nancy. We had an absolutely amazing birth experience at "The Birthing Inn", the only stand alone birth center in Tacoma, WA. We knew we wanted a water birth and originally planned to birth at the hospital. We hired a wonderful doula, knowing we would need all the support we could get to have a natural birth at the hospital. At 37 weeks pregnant, my husband finally watched The Business of Being Born and halfway through the movie he said to me "We can't do this in the hospital! Is it too late to have a home birth?" I always thought he felt more comfortable with the hospital and he thought I felt more comfortable with the hospital when in fact NEITHER of us wanted to birth there. My provider at the time did not deliver at home or at the birth center so I was afraid it was too late. I called my doula in a panic and she quickly referred me to the wonderful midwives at "The Birthing Inn". I met with Susan Sherwood LM, CPM that day, we got my records transferred from my previous provider where Susan could see I was low-risk and at least 37 weeks pregnant. Immediately my husband and I felt so relieved! Finally, there was absolutely no question in our minds that our birth plan would go according to plan.
I went into labor about 3:00 AM on July 21st. We met our doula and midwife at The Birthing Inn at 9:00 AM. Every step of the way, they were amazing. I was unable to keep fluids down due to labor nausea and Susan immediately recognized the importance of getting me intravenous hydration which was easily accomplished right then and there. In the final hour, the bath tub was filled and at 3:55 PM I gave birth to our little Michelle Nancy in the water, just as we had planned all along. Four hours later, we were clear to go home, or stay in the beautiful birthing suite for up to 24 hours. We decided to go home. That night, we slept as a family together, in our bed, in our home. All the pain, all the work, so worth every step of the way. We have so much gratitude for Susan Sherwood LM, CPM, Amy Gordon LM, and doula Kelli Hancock for all the amazing work they do at "The Birthing Inn" to make every birth the BEST BIRTH!
