Baby Friendly--Mother Friendly: Is your birth place either?

Posted on January 6, 2010 at 5:15am 0 Comments

In 1991 The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched. This initiative is an… Continue

If you are thinking CNM route there are full tuition scholarships through the government/military. I did not choose the military route but they will certainly pay you to become a midwife. I choose to use the National Health Service Corps…

I had 4 hospital births and have had 6 home births. At the end of my first homebirth pregnancy, my midwife checked my cervix. I said, okay, but I started labor the first 4 times after a doc checked my cervix. She said, honey, they were seeing if…

With natural labor, a woman pushes when she is ready. Her body tells her when to push and she listens. She will often "labor down" but the term is not usually used with natual labor because usually we trust that a woman knows when to push…

Rachel, It is my understanding from the limited research that i have done that any bearing down aside from normal BMs can be dangerous. It has been a long time since I have personally cared for a patient with this condition but it doesnt seem like…

Vaginal birth is always safer than cesarean even when induction is involved.

I hope this will help a little, or at least add to the discussion. With congential aortic stenosis (CAS) some women are actually advised to NEVER get pregnant becasue it can be very dangerous/deadly for them. While we know most women have normal…

I enjoyed reading this post Nicole. I will definitely use some of your points the next time a client talks to be about cervical checks. In the childbirth education classes I teach, I discourage them, but I didn't put it quite like you did, so…

@Rebecca, if its any consolation or if it matters... I just want you to know that your contractions were NOT "weak and ineffective" :-) They were strong and powerful and moved your cervix from closed to 10cm dialated. That's sounds…
