I live in South Africa and we have only just become involved in our doula work. I find many doctors and gynae's dont know enough about doulas.

I so enjoy doing the post doula work.  I am in the country in KZN looking after a new baby and helping her mum to get some more sleep etc. She is happy and will produce more milk if she can rest and I look after the baby.. Win , win situation!

Importance of natural Oxytocin... during labour

The importance of natural Oxytocin for birthBy Lisa Barrett on May 1, 2010There was a very interesting article in the BMJ about the effect of IV bolus dose of synthetic oxytocin, produced in the form of a double blind randomized and controlled trial, here is the conclusion:Oxytocin administered as an i.v. bolus of 10 IU induces chest pain, transient profound tachycardia, hypotension, and concomitant signs of myocardial ischaemia according to marked ECG and STC-VM changes. working in our State or public hospitals as a doula

I have been working in one of our State hospitals for a couple of months now. It is a priveledge to work with our African mums who do not have their partners with them during the labour process. The hospital is designed with women birthing together in one room so that space is at an optimum. I work with freely amongst the women and feel the importance of being a doula and caring for each and every one of them. I get enormous satisfaction when I have worked a day in the hospital. In a month we…See More

I have my mothers visualize doing just that. And then at the time of birth, I remind them to feel the baby's head so they can get a sense of how the baby's head is emerging - to birth yhe head as gently as possible and avoid tearing.

I speak for the southern states as a Mississippi native. Doulas are definitely not hanging around every corner as home-birth assisted by a midwife is actually illegal in Alabama and just not addressed in Mississippi. Therefore there really…

You are right. It is the best way. I do classes at the child birth classes in the hospitals. The dads actually really enjoy it . I give them a list of what they can do and bring.. it is fun. I also have a midwife that knows me well so she hands over…

The birth of Douglas to Roz a caesarian ... from his mum Roz

Posted on January 16, 2010 at 10:43pm 1 Comment

My birth story might be a little different from other new moms. From the moment I found out I was pregnant I was thrilled and filled with a sense of wonder, my body was the healthiest it has ever been and I followed Dr. Swans “instructions” to the T. I knew I was going to have a caesar and Dr. Swan explained step by step what would happen. As there is no daddy in the picture I had asked my mom to be there with me on the big day. In truth I didn’t need anyone with me as my faith in Dr. Swan… Continue

I usually start seeing moms in their second trimester, usually mid-trimester. Fees in our area range from C$250 to $500 +. You can visit my website at http://www.wombtocradle.com to learn more about my particular practice.
